Disassembly and Inspection
We take the disassembly and inspection process very seriously to ensure the highest quality. Each cylinder head undergoes an initial inspection during disassembly, followed by a second inspection by a separate technician to catch any potential issues right from the start.
Even if you provide new cores or disassembled heads, they will still need to be inspected for damage, unless purchased directly from HeadGames. Inspection fees apply to all cylinder heads.
- For assembled heads, a $310 service charge covers disassembly, inspection, oil plug removal, and flushing in our Ultrasonic, and Wet Blaster.
- For disassembled and new cores, a $120 inspection fee applies. Remember, new heads can have issues too!

Cleaning
We’ve put in the effort to deliver the highest standard of surface finish and cleanliness in cylinder head cleaning.
For a factory-fresh look, we offer vapor honing to restore your heads to a like-new appearance.
All heads are thoroughly cleaned using our Wet Technologies wet soda blaster, ultrasonic cleaner, or spray washer to ensure optimal results.

Oversized Valve Flow vs. OEM Valve
We often get asked why we don’t offer oversized valves for the BMW B58 cylinder head. The answer is simple: oversized valves do not fit on the OEM valve seats.
The reality is the factory port design doesn’t support a larger valve and the oversized valve physically doesn’t fit the seat properly. You’re left with a valve that’s bigger than the seat it’s trying to seal, which compromises durability, sealing, and reliability.
At HeadGames Motorworks, we focus on what works—not what looks good on paper. Proper valve sizing keeps flow optimized, seats intact, and power where it belongs: under your right foot!

Important Note on B58/S58 Cylinder Heads (2016–2020)
If you're working with a 2016–2020 BMW B58 or S58 cylinder head, it's important to know about a known OEM flaw: these heads are prone to cracking at one of the cam caps. This issue can lead to misfires and drivability concerns. BMW addressed and corrected the problem starting with the 2021 model year.
At this time, there is no repair solution available for the affected cam caps, and unfortunately, it's not something that can be resolved through our services. While this issue is unrelated to any work performed by HeadGames Motorworks, we believe in keeping our customers fully informed—because building better always starts with knowing the facts.

The B58 Cylinder Head Breakdown: Know What You Have
There’s a lot of confusion out there—and honestly, in the industry too—about the different versions of the BMW B58 cylinder head. You’ll hear them referred to as Gen 1, Gen 2, Gen 3, or sometimes Gen 1, Gen 1.5, and Gen 2 depending on who you're talking to. The truth is, BMW didn’t make it easy.
One key difference that matters for performance work: some heads have an integrated exhaust manifold, and some don’t. If your B58 has the integrated exhaust design, you're limited to a pocket port only—there’s just no room to go further without compromising functionality.
Aside from that, the valvetrain across all versions is essentially the same, with the exception of the cams. So if you’re unsure what version you’ve got, reach out—we can help identify it and guide you on what services are available.

Combustion Chamber Reshaping & Direct Injection
For B58/S58 owners sticking with a direct-injection-only setup, please note: our combustion chamber reshaping services are not compatible with DI-only builds. The factory chamber shape is critical to proper fuel atomization and combustion in these applications.
However—if you're planning a dual-fuel setup (port + direct injection), the game changes. With that flexibility, we can reshape the chamber to unleash additional performance without compromising reliability. In short, if you're going dual-fuel, the world is your oyster.
