Dave's Take:
The 5/8 burr is my go to for roughing out many ports and even pocket ports. I have multiple of these because I cut the to different lengths depending on how hard I am going to be porting, or if the runner is long or short.
Pocket port, I would use a short 4 inch, I do this because I want to be close to the subject. For a runner I use the whole 6 inch length so I have the most leverage.
When doing a full port, I use the 5/8 or 3/4 to rough it out and then go over it with the 1/2 at full speed and then again at slow speed or switch to the 3/8 double cut burr for a smooth finish on a pocket port (never use the 3/8 for a full port).
